Well? Did anyone figure out why Silky Bantams have stinky poopies?

I will NOT get rid of my stinky darlings, who live in my bedroom and are, yes, stinky hens at 9 months now. Regardless of feed, my hypothesis is the smell is due to their dark skin melanin pigmentation and the chromosomal 5 toed thing which twists the balance of the anal and/or the digestive glands that scent in their poopies to make that strong odor. I know females have a pre-poop during egg-laying that is foul, but their regular poops are pretty eyebrow-raising to those unfamiliar with this event horizon. But I am too in love with them, so my stock of holiday pumpkin pie smell really helps after my white one blows a good one! My bearded marbled black&white isn't as fierce.

Not sure this should be in the New Member Introductions. Interesting question. If you are new, welcome to BYC and enjoy those lovely silkies! :frow
Thank you for the heads-up. It's sometimes head-ache-causing stuff. Ug. But thank you. (I am from a very expressive family. I'll can it and tone-down to basic from now on. No worries. (We have writers and actors in our family).) Expression is everything as I grew up. Sorry again. But I was signed into here a while ago, actually.:bow😓

No need to get rid of them, just let them live in their own chicken coop and nice big added run, so they will be able to enjoy the real chicken life and poop to their heart's content. :D

The smell does not have to do with the number of their toes or colour of their skin. It has to do with the kind of poop, for instance the more liquidy cecal poop stinks to high heaven, and broody poops as well.
And of course it also depends on the feed they get, the grounds and climate they live on and in, and their accordingly delevoped gut bacteria.

Well, yes, thank you for that heads up! I have them in the house mostly when the sun goes down, although they have a fun run outside. They get Purina Layena, proper grit with the digestive probiotics, and oyster shell, etc. The land here is clean, and I buy fresh earth in bags at the hardware store without any fertilizer stuff, just regular earth, then I actually bake it to get rid of any mites or whatever might be in the bag since I don't know where the earth came from/dirt. I really try. I love them a lot. I am sprouting some of their scratch outside and they love the shoots. They get a variety of healthy veggies, not a huge amount that causes the runs. I also bought feed from the tractor supply store and used the, what is it...Dumor brand? I can't stand the gas prices, because there is a feed store that has a different brand my other hens really liked, "Bar Ale"???? Does anyone have the best feed suggestions? I even sew them pillows to sleep on so their keel bones don't hurt, I REALLY spoil them...but PU! I pay so much money having wellness health checks on them...ug! But I am at the age where I think my heart would break if I wasn't this neurotic with them!!! I've had horses, goats, reptiles, wild birds of all sorts, and wild mammals, etc. But I had to tone it down a bit since I'm in my 50s now. yikes.
