WELL everyone pray for me my flock has Infectious Laryngotracheitis

can the vaccine be given at any age? I would hate to have the same thing happen to any other BYCers! Hope you can gather your hopes and start anew. Good luck, and my sympathies!

I am so sorry to hear your sad news, sending prayers and hugs your way.

the vaccine for ILT can be given at 4 weeks of age or older and is an eye dropper vacs, in the water or a mist. u have to quarenteen for 30 days no in or out birds after vaccine is given and use strict biosecurity, it is a modified live virus in the vaccine. in pa it is a required vaccine for showing my whole flock gets vaccinated yearly with LT-I vax.

ILT is a reportable disease and yes most states do cull and have to incinerate them. it can be quarenteened and vaccinated for ones not sick. i had carriers come in with it last year, the state didn't come in to inspect or cull but they helped us through all the nycropsies and anything we needed. the reason they didn't destroy our flock was because we r liceansed techs through the dept of ag. we kept daily contact with them and they knew everything we were doing and going through.

it was a horrible nightmare we had 4 both live nycropsies done and dead ones that took 4 weeks to get the final results for but through the testing we talked on the phone to many times to count to keep us updated on findings. we went through issolateion, strict biosecurity measures, vaccines, antibiotics for secondary probs and u name it. by the time we were done we had lost about 7 and saved about 150 birds. we had 2 carriers who had to be culled and have vaccinated since and had no problems since.

i do not wish that pain and sorrow and heartache on anyone. we went through a few mths of pure hell to pull them babies all through. i have been there i know how u feel. i know it's hard but to be honest what they r doing is so much easier, cheaper, than all we had to endure and definately less painfull and easier on the birds. there is so many of us here i'm sure we will be able to help u get a good start in sping with new stock. i know it's not the same but a good start.

Yep. Doesn't work though if they have already had the disease.

that is correct. if they had the real deal they are already immune from building antibodies but they can become carriers. futer flocks vaccinate definately!

I am so sorry. This is why it's imperative to quarantine new birds and disinfect shoes and change clothes when you go to any event like a show or auction. Hopefully, in your pain, you can save someone else from this. Again, my heart aches for what you're going through.

ILT is a highly contagous respitory disease that can be airborne. in all honesty it is probably all over different parts of the u.s. it is very common. knowing where it is doesn't do u any good but protecting them ahead of time is really the best thing u can do in hopes to prevent it.

in all honesty if i was faced with the situation again after all me and my 5 kid's went through the first time. i'd never do it again i'd cull them immediately the whole flock for many reasons but the main one due to i've seen them die from a slow very painful death. i'd never put any of my animals in that situation again or want to see it again.

Who is they? I just did a search on the NC ag site and there is no listing under the infectious outbreak??? I emailed them direct but who know when they will answer. Please give more details.
