Hello all, well we took the plunge today and got our very first pullets. I built the brooder out of a pallet from work and some left over wood, but it did nicely. We went this morning and bought the lamp and other starter stuff set it up and the and got our girls. We are so excited and now we have 3 Reds and 3 Bantam girls. We haven't picked any names yet were going to want till our two kids get home to help on that one. So.... I'll up date soon

But no matter, Bantums, regardless of breed, always have one common trait. They're a barrel of laughs! I think you'll enjoy having them around. They really are dynamite in small packages!

Oh, and by the way:

You've probably found your second home here. You've certainly found the one place on the entire Internet where everyone here fully understands this madness we call chicken ownership! It's addictive! You'll know you're fully hooked when you start planning your entire back yard landscape around the chicken coop and the chickens!

When you find you can't pass up the new chick tanks at the feed store without bringing home at least 3 or 4 new chicks. And you'll really know you're hooked when you start looking at that old beat up ice chest out in the garage as having potential to be an incubator!

It's an all consuming addiction, but what a way to go!

So be warned now. It's already too late. You have the chicks. There's no turning back now. Just give in to the addiction. And any time you think maybe you shouldn't buy a half dozen more chicks, just pop by here. There's sure to be three dozen people ready to advise you to go ahead and get them! We're firm enablers around here!

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcoming. I would have bought more chicks but with us living in a subdivision I didn't want them to bother the neighbors, and with us not knowing how nosiey the chickens (very first flock) get we statred small. There is still room to grow;) As far as the chicken projects yep I know what you mean I keep looking around work for the scrap wood they throw away for my coop, last night I snagged a pretty good sized pallet for my coop 5'x5' with sides so I just need to extend the sides but and plywood it in. Can't wait so much excitment ha ha lol:p UPDATE!! Our cat Tank discovered the chicks and ate two
