The thing about roosters guarding flocks is they are really only physically capable of guarding against other roosters and not much else. They can stand on look out and sound an alarm but having one in your flock isn't going to stop predation. They are great to have IMO and each bird is unique and you should never assume that a bird will have a predefined personality based on it's breed. Believe me, I know. The Salmon Faverolle is touted as being an exceptionally gentle rooster with a mild disposition. Someone should sit my boy down and explain all this to him.
