Well i am through with ducks, 5 dead

I am sorry for your loss. My daughter (now 8) had a goat & this stray kept coming around. Of course I go out to feed one morning & the goat is dead & guess who found it. My daughter. I got her a baby & the first night it was out alone & my daughter was at her dads. I came home late & the dog tried attacking me as I was checking the dead goat. I called teh sherriff & he said we would go to court. Nothing was ever done. Some one later accidently ran over the dog. I said I would have paid him for it. Oh we have large dogs & they know better than to mess with the chickens so I hope the ducks will be fine. Right now all the animals want to eat them but our ducks are only a week old & livein my living room.

As for court some Judges just dont understand they think its just a dumb animal. You can have anything be your beloved pet. I would agree with the SSS plan. Or rehome in one way or another. I hope you get justice of some kind. God Bless you & your family.

Well the dog attaked and killed my neighbors cat. poor things biggest mistake was not fearing dogs, she didn't have time to get away. Now there are five people waiting to use the SSS method. So shouldn't be to long and the dog's reign of terror will be put to an end. I just hope he doesn't get ahold of a child before then. Animal control still will do nothing. And NO there isn't away to catch him as he is always ready to attack.

I am so sorry for your losses. Give your hearts some time to mend, and I do hope you are able to have ducks again.

And as for the dog...if it comes on your property again SSS. If someone comes looking simply reply "what dog?" As you said it is a dangerous menance and you have 4 kids to protect.

I sure as heck wouldn't try to get between a 150 pound wolf-hybrid and its prey, like another poster suggested.

There is another post on the board about a woman who got between her neighbor's jerk dog, that had previously killed one of her chickens, and her pet pullet "Ellie". (Sorry, I can't recall the human caretaker's name.)
The dog ended up jumping her and she suffered serious, life altering fractures.

I love animals, but I'd seriously think about trapping this booger dog and bring him to the shelter. Odds are if it is that bad with most animals, it wouldn't pass the temprament test and would be humanely put down.

People are stupid. We live in a society that doesn't take responsibility. I hate that an animal might have to suffer for the stupidity of its owners, but unfortunately that is often the case.
This is also why my former feral cats are all strictly inside and my fowl are behind a 6 foot fence.

If I knew a dog had killed a cat, I'd be sorely tempted to take photos of the dog and make wanted posters with the bad owners address and phone number on it. If something killed one of my pets, I'd be beside myself.

Just my 2 cents.

I would not hesitate to shoot the dog or trap it and dispose of it. I am different as i believe in an eye for an eye, because if we kept quiet and just let things happen with out retaliation, we would get walked all over and taken advantage of because no lessons would be taught.

It truly isnt the dogs fault, it is truly the owners fault. But at the same time, its not your fault this happend either.

Trust me, i love dogs very much as i have 5 of my own, but i also have priorities and rules, if one of them bit a human (unless its an intruder) i would have no choice but to dispose of it, i wont own a dog that i have to worry about liabilties with.

Again, this is my personal opinion and how i would handle things, but the choice is strictly yours.

Sorry about your ducks, it is heart wrenching to lose something you have put your time and heart into.

I total agree with what you are saying.....When my duck was killed my a neighbor who didnt care her dogs were loose...It broke my heart because all she had to do was pay a fine..It was around $500 but she got to take her dog home and I got to bury my duck...
He is the darker of the 2..
