HUGE sigh of relief!

I thought hubby and I were the only chickenals (chicken criminals)!

I don't even live in a city limits...if I did chickens would be legal...go figure.

Nice quiet girls is all I hope for and you're darned right they'll be lots quieter than the neighbors with barking dogs.

BTW has anyone who writes those dumb laws ever thought about the fact that we should ALL have chickens because it would help reduce the spread of Lyme disease from ticks and things mosquitoes spread because the flock would eat'em up?

CHICKEN POWER!!!!

Welcome, Gnawsey! I'm one of those who definitely prefers chickens to dogs (and roosters to leaf blowers, for the matter of that)!

Hi All,

New here, I live in the GREAT Central Valley in California (we are the only conservative area in all of California)...

Anyway, I am a homeschool mom of a 3 year old and I am almost 40 years (started kinda late) and we are building a new home and I will be raising illegal chicks as well. I looked up our zoning and poultry is illegal in our zone, oh well. Just thought I'd introduce myself and let you know I am joining the law breakers!!

I have a few questions that I will be posting in another so hope you all will chime in.

Thanks,

Stephanie

Oh I'm a TOTAL law breaker too. I live in Philadelphia. LOL. I have now 10 baby chicks and a pot belly pig. As well as a PLETHORA of other pets.
It's really all about where you keep them in your yard and how cool your neighbors are. The ones next to me think it's hysterical I have a little mini-farm in the city.
My pig has even escaped twice into their yard and they were hysterical. They thought me and my kids chasing a baby pig was the funniest thing ever.

Good luck!

Clair Bear, I had to search on line under the town name. You should be able to check out ordinances and such. You may have to dig deep to get the details. I did not check with my town, but I found out on line that I could keep up to 4 as long as there was adequate housing, cleanliness, fenced yard, no roo, (noise) but the big concern of mine is neighbors that might be peeved about you having them. They may cause a problem. Oh well.

I agree with MudHen.. give the neighbors eggs and "It's ALL GOOD"

Have fun.. You "rebel" you!!! I'm new too... Chickens are soooo "addicting"

I had to call the codes enforcement office for my county...under an alias (of course!). If you live in a city or town ,imits you may want to check both the county and the city ordinances as they can differ greatly. (If I lived in the town limits chickens would be okie dokie, but outside in a residentially zoned area I am an outlaw to keep chickens.)

I've actually looked iinto what I'd have to do to change the laws and it would involve a re-do of the entire zoning code so I'll just keep being a law breaker!

I'd prefer to be woke up by a rooster any day at 5 am over some dumb dog barking at nothing.
