Well I made it...I'm in China (with link to ALL pictures updated 3/29)

Scott, take care!! I am so glad you made it safely. Forget food entirely. It ALL sounds either yucky or dangerous. They must have some type of alcohol you can subsist on- do you think that would affect your job at all?

Those are in the Philipines...

Yup, balut is a Filipino delicacy, not Chinese.

ETA: I'd also like to ask that posters tread lightly when it comes to criticizing/critiquing ethnic foods, even if you're being facetious. While I understand that for most Americans and people of the western world, eating dogs is not quite accepted into our culture, it is a way of life for many Asian countries. Media has also exaggerated its prominence-if you were to visit Vietnam or China, chances are you won't see it walking down the streets of Hanoi or Shanghai. These dogs are bred to be food and through this, many of the cute and cuddly characteristics of a domesticated animal and couch companion are bred out. Yes, when it comes to China, the term "mystery meat" definitely has its place, but please keep in mind that some comments that I've seen here on BYC regarding this topic can be offensive to some (like me, a Chinese-American).

Anyway, to the OP-China can be a very beautiful place and for whatever reason you're there, I hope you enjoy it. On behalf of my grandmother's people, please excuse their spitting and slurping

. It's a cultural thing.

Oh, and bring back a yak that isn't black. . . We're in desperate need of new colors of Yaks.

Yard full o' rocks :

Well, its 5:25pm on TUESDAY and I am in Shantou China. I've taken a few local pix and will try to post them later tonight.

All is well, although I haven't seen the first chicken yet....only a couple of geese.

More later

Scott

Where is Shantou in comparison to Beijing or Ningbo? My company has partnered with some magnet manufacturers in Ningbo so I am somewhat familiar with that city. At the risk of sounding ignorant, I have no idea where Shantou is located. China is a HUGE country.

Good luck and stay away from the corner vendors!

Wow, Scott! I am so very jealous! I would love to see China
