as of today. Not sure we will have any hatching...there was one incident that might have killed them on day 7 or 8. But I'm not sure so I kept with the turning and checking temp and humidity. I think if we don't have success this time (our 2nd try), hubby is thinking of buying an incubator.

I was just thinking about you today wondering how your hatch was going. If you do buy one, don't get the little giant if you can help it....lol Crossing my fingers though that you see something.

Thanks AmyLynn2374. I'm not sure what we have around here. Hubby priced some I think, said it would cost about $40.
He's looking at the lg still air at TSC isn't he? The 9300 model does not have a big fan base, I can tell you that. I use the 9200 and have good hatches, but I am constantly monitoring it. I don't know anyone who has been using the 10300 but from what I understand it's reletively the same as the 9300.

Quote: I have now idea which one he was looking at. But I'll give him this info. Thanks. :) I just went to TSC and checked out the incubator...looks like there is only the one...Little Giant 9300, so should we look elsewhere for a different one? Seems like a lot of people have trouble with the LG.

Good hatches are possible, but a lot of work and they are not really any more stable than your home made. (Better reviews than the lg.) You'd be just as well off buying the thermostat for your homemade bator. If you talked to @WalnutHill she could give you some tips to tweaking the homemaid one and probably for about the same price as the cheap lg. The hova bators are pretty good, you can pick them up for around $100-$120 on ebay. TSC has a farm incubator they sell onling for about $130. These have the fan and I know the FI has the turner as well. I'd just hate to see you spend even $50 and still have the same problems that you are having with the homemade one.

Quote: Well, the temps stay around 95-102--mainly 99 and humidity 45-50, but I've increased it to 55-75 %. Both times we've tried, I was turning the eggs every hour or 1 1/2 hours. But I noticed this time if I go 2-3 hours between, numbers don't change. So if this one doesn't work, I'll try ONCE more and not turn as often--but do it more than 3 times a day.

It's going to be hard to get a good hatch unless you can narrow down that temp fluctuation. I'd recommend lowering the humidity as well I wouldn't incubate over 40% unless the air cells indicate it needs to be higher.
My last hatch I hand turned. Some days I did three, some days I did 5.

Well, another failure. No hatching. I think the incident that happened about day 7-8 killed them. Getting frustrated, almost don't want to try again. I don't know. Maybe one more try. :(

If you can get the temp steady, (add a thermostat) and lower that humidity, I think you'd be good.
