There is a lot of good quality old furniture that can be recycled. I just bought few days ago a set of three tables (coffee and sides tables) from Habitat for $25 all three. They are solid wood (the top is 2 in. thick) real heavy, made in the 50’ or 60’, with beautiful details and a rustic look. Just needs a little attention and they will be as good as new. I love the rustic look. I’m going to use this set in a seating area next to the chicken run. I love the old furniture because it was made to last a life time, not like the cheap “Made in China” junk we buy now

If the style is to old fashion you can change it by removing or adding some of the ornate details.

and Alison, I drove down on a weekend in several neighborhoods, looking for “junk” at the side of the road that I can use to make two new small nesting boxes for few of my little bantams that like to hide their eggs, and I'm still looking for something that I can use to put my broody hen when she hatches her eggs....I hope

Improvising, improvising.......I love improvising,

We used to have a clean up day in town where everybody puts out their junk
and us repurposers' would go out and rummage through the treasures.

I love free shopping.

My whole family just keeps walking when I'm reaching into a garbage can for a whole wonder roast
or a coupon or whatever, I guess I'm embarrassing them.

EDIT*(the wonder roast is for the dog and the chickens)

Our neighborhood has "free Sunday". Anyone who wants to get rid of stuff, just puts it on the curb with a Free sign and it goes away to someone. (Just make sure nothing you want to *keep* goes on the curb on Sunday or it may not need a sign...)

The town I work in (and lived in while I was a college student) is very hippy. Everyone puts stuff out at the curb if they want it to disappear. All summer long you can find furniture and other treasures. I got all sorts of stuff that way- and got rid of some too. Its just the culture around here. We also have a very active freecycle community (for any who DON'T know, freecycle is like craigslist, but free. Look it up. Its worth it.) Re-purposing is great!
