Well my chicks arrived today some dead...

So I ordered 36 chicks and so far 12 are dead and though I've tried the sugar water, the cider vinegar some are still lethargic and seem on the edge of death. Of course the others are happily cheeping away.

Wow, I am impressed any made it. I hope the ones that did and are looking sickly will get better and those others thrive.

I am sorry your chicks had such a hard trip. Call your hatchery (if from one) and let them know as soon as possible. They will credit your account. Once I had a postal worker carry my chicks with him all day in January, his window open and they chilled. I lost almost all of them over the first 3 days. I would HOLD the vinegar and give them warm sugar water only. If you have electrolytes, add just a bit of them, but not enough to make the water bitter. Keep them warm and draft free, and watch for pasty butts. I use a tiny syringe and put a few drops of warm sugar water on their tongues from time to time if they are lethargic. Just be very careful and not give too much, they choke/asperate. you can use an eyedropper if you have one. Good luck, this is heart breaking. HenZ

The shipped on Saturday and I picked them up at 7:00 am this morning when post office called. I did purchase them from Mcmurray's. I just lost another one too.

I am sorry. I ordered from them last year and although it was later in the year (April) warmer, we lost 3-4 chicks (banties only) MMM had great customer service about chick replacement. It is still very sad to see the little ones not make it.

I do not understand why they ship on Saturdays. I would NEVER ship live birds later than Wednesday and prefer not to later than Tuesday at the very latest. (My comfort zone is only Mondays, but that wasn't always possible.)

I got my from McMurray yesterday. Luckily I have not lost any yet. I got 44 when I ordered 39. It does look like a few will not make it. I luckily got a call from the main distribution post office for my area yesterday morning and they let me come pick them up. She did tell me they had 5 orders and mine was the only one that did not have dead ones in it though. I am pretty sure they expect a few losses. Sorry to hear you have lost so many.
