Thought the girls were being extremely loud this morning. What the heck are they doing??? Went to let the dogs out and found this....

Building the chicken tractor this week and I think it's time to clip wings. Never done it before so and tips would be appreciated

You're lucky they are just now figuring out they can fly the coop! Mine figured out they could escape 4 days old! Not sure how well clipped wings will work....

It's super easy. Here you go when I first clipped my first flock they did so well so you shouldn't have to fight them at all

You're lucky they are just now figuring out they can fly the coop! Mine figured out they could escape 4 days old! Not sure how well clipped wings will work....

Clipping works a little better. It's more until they figure out they can jump lol

At least yours were that old before they started flying.

Had mine for about 3.5 weeks before that started happening (and the resulting poop down the side of the brooder). That became a determining factor on when these littles go live out in the coop.


As for clipping wings, I would honestly try to build a secured run instead. This allows them to still safely flutter down from high areas.

Mine figured out they could jump from the waterer or feeder to the side of the tote no prob!
