well say good bye to feild trips..

Our school still has field trips. But I've heard talk that they don't like them because they are not educational enough.
The argument went along with increasing the number of days of school(year round school) so that the U.S. can come up to par with the math and science of many other countries that do better academically.
I get to do a lot of extra things with my kids and take them places but not all parents are willing or able to do that.

Having worked at an educational tourist attraction in the past, I hate field trips because too many of the kids on them are bratty and destructive. Been that way pretty much since field trips began, I remember my uncle telling me about some of his buddies vandalizing artwork at a museum on a field trip back in the 70s.

I don't mind some field trips that are close to the school like the park system farm, nature center,or museums.

I think the kids would be fine without them. I am however a bit nervous over the idea of field trips to place 2-4 hours away and/or where the parents volunteer to drive. I have seen some of these parents at school drop-off/pick-up.Not only do many speed, but most of them are talking/texting on a cell. I understand they need to get somewhere, but slow down and put the phone away! I would not want my kids in a car/bus with a person who thinks using a cell for any reason while driving is OK. Unfortunately I have no say in the matter, and can only hope for the best.

I have attended some outings with the school children, and behavior can be so poor.It is embarrassing. Some kids won't settle down even when you tell them too!

My dd's GS is going to Chicago and the kids have a selection or selections where they wanted to go. Guess what they wanted to go, non educational! It is All Girls' Store, Shopping Mall, Clothing stores and I thought WHAT???!!!! The selections for the museums, planteaniums, acquirums, zoos and rides were low on the list.....is my dd is in the wrong GS???!!! If they are planning to go "shopping until they drop" trip, then I do not think it is worth my money and GS money just to buy things and not go where the best places Chicago has to offer! Looks like the GS are into clothes or the parents are choosing the trips themselves!

I didn't. My adolescence was a time period that I would be quite happy to forget.

Please let's stop with the argumentative debates.

This is not a court of law, just a young member expressing frustration at the ending of a school activity.
