Well here is the basic run down, coop will be 8w x 8l x 4h. Run will not be perfect square ( shhh don’t tell the flock) so basic measurements for the easy chicken math, is 16l x 21w.

Coop is going under the old carport previous owner had out back next to a shed, thought about using the shed, but I still use it from time to time. Fun part has been realizing how much crap and junk was out there behind and beside the shed from old owner. I knew there was a lot didn’t realize it was 3 layers deep, so we’ve been loading the trailer and moving crap as we go. So anyways here is the current pictures as what all we did today.

Frame built mostly, still have to add the rafters, leveled off dang near perfect (wow that ground as really un-level), floor joist in on 24” centers, and floor panels down. Didn’t think it was to shabby for a guy in a wheelchair and his 16yr old daughter.. We could have gotten more done but I was wore out from climbing all over the place lol.

Haven’t updated in awhile, here is some current status pictures. I’m not a carpenter so hold your laughter in..

2 windows up top, pop door at the bottom, door in place now is not the door that will be in when done.

Roost bars and small look at nest boxes. There will be a fan on this wall blowing air out.

What have I missed so far?

HC will be installed on the windows and vents, other areas like poop board will have trim around it, not installed yet. If you zoom in on the roost pic there is a ramp in the middle coming up through the floor, it and the entrance ramp will have steps.

Couple things I see right off the bat.
The poop board, I would make it a single 'pan' with a single roost at each end, it's 8' right?
Will be much easier to clean that way.
Unless maybe you have a reason for splitting like you did?

The windows, I would hinge them at the top, so they can stay open during rain.
Not sure what your roof line is like, ceiling/roof looks flat.
Oh....You might want to move it out from under the carport at some point.
Are you going to glaze them?
Good for light in winter, then HC on the inside.
Saw some great plexi windows the other day, dang can't remember who had them.

Only because you asked. I will not make a coop that I can't easily walk in and out of. You are in a different situation. In that case, i would not make a coop that I can't reach completely across. You never know when you will have to capture one or more of your chickens. No matter how tame you get them to be, there will be times that they will not cooperate with you.

Not bad other than your wall studs are put in, in a non-standard manner.

Be sure to provide lighting either by windows, skylights or electrical fixtures. An electrical outlet might be handy if you ever need the use of heater to prevent water freezing.

Electrical is only 5ft max away there is a outlet just behind the wall with the roost. Lights above it, and one will be in it. Ya I wish I would have made it ground level and walk in. You are so correct.

no I only did it the way to be different. Thinking about at after you u said this. Well poop

I’m hoping my hold downs (not installed) will be strong enough to let them stay open. I did leave one open the other night in the storms we had don’t know how much it bounced around but it’s still level and there, so that’s a start.

It is flat, I don’t think I will ever move it minus a fork lift. It has full coverage from the carport above to assist in keeping water off. The hole thing will be painted (deck paint), then a water sealer. and I have some metal roofing I thought about putting up on top for looks.

There will be a 16in led light in there in the middle, HC will definitely be on the inside. Plexiglass/Lexan is something I didn’t think about, and I think it was JT.

Then no need to change the window hinges.

Will the light be controlled by a timer to simulate daylight hours?
That could get tricky.
It wasn't JT.
