Every since my first flock started laying a few years ago I've kept a notebook with their daily egg production totals, the monthly totals, how many eggs I've sold and to whom.
When my younger flock started laying in the fall I added a column for them. The adults get a "A" for adult next to their totals, the little ones get a "B" for babies.
This system has worked fine to date. Then not too long ago the younger girls started hanging out around the adult coop during the day. Some of the adult hens have snuck into the juvenile coop to check out their feed (same feed, different coop).
Today I go out to collect eggs and find three of the pullets in the nestboxes of the adult coop and one of the adult hens in a juvie's nestbox. Identical nestboxes in each coop, filled with hay from the same bale. All 8 nestboxes have two golfballs a piece.
Chickens!! I swear they do it to test my patience!
