I got a funny one.
I was in the coop visiting with the girls and noticed there where 2 hens in one nest. Beautiful was standing and straining so I watched to see what was going on. Now you have to get a visual picture in your mind so i'll explain the picture. I have a big hen that was sitting at the back of the nest with her hiney touching the wall and facing the hen (Beautiful) that was standing sideways in front of her. I could see her face under the one in front and was intently watching her backside. Well, Beautiful laid an egg while standing and as soon as that egg landed the other hen rolled it under her.
That just confused the heck out of Beautiful because she knew she just laid an egg but it wasn't there. She started raising a ruckuss and after about 10 minutes she shut up and got down. She never found out what happened to her egg. this hen will get really mad if she is sitting on eggs and I come in and take them. She will yell for a long time. She's a BO.
I laughed so hard, thought that was the funniest think I ever saw an animal do to another. And the big hen just sat there. When Beautiful gave up and left I went and retrieved the egg from the big hen and she just sat back down to lay hers. LIke she could care less.
I go and visit my hens often during the day. I talk to them and a few will wait to be petted. My daughter thinks i'm nuts to talk to and pet chickens. Until she witnessed the quail babies hatching today. She got excited then. She knows why I get the way I do.
