I was just in the dark kitchen, and I heard this low, creepy, creaking noise. Sort of like a rusty gate opening. I turn on the light, and it was one of my quail doing the egg-call! I'm not sure which one it was, but now I know I have at least one hen.

So how long after they call do they start laying? Anyone know?

Well now I know!

We were eating dinner tonight, and one of the quail (still don't know which one) started doing her egg call. Dh stopped talking in mid-sentence and said, "Well that was interesting."

After dinner, I went to fill up the quails' sandbox, and there was an egg laying on the wire!

I have no idea if it's fertile or not, but it's going in the incubator with my others that came today.

YAY!!!! Sometimes they do the egg call right as soon as they are laying so it sounds like one of hte times she was crying she was squeezing that bugger out!

I wouldn't blame her!

The funny thing is, dh watched me take that egg out and carry it to the living room. He watched me put it in a carton with my resting shipped ones, and he said, "I KNOW they didn't lay all those!"
