I always pause to offer a prayer of thanks before following through. I give our animals a really good life, as good as I can. They get to run around and be happy chickens doing happy chicken things.
I do like the calm after the storm.....I just finished butchering around 20 extra roosters, a few turkeys and a few meat birds. The rest of the laying flock is in much better balance now. My main man has about 5 of his own girls and the other 4 younger boys have 5 or 6 girls each and everyone has plenty of room so there's a lot of quiet chicken noise, if you know what I mean. Now if my geese didn't comment on everything and my ducks didn't laugh at everything, we might get some real peace and quiet around here!
Anyway congrats on your first chicken processing, homegrown and humanely raised really does taste much better.
