Well that was Unexpected

Thank you for that info. Ive seen some fights but outright brawls, besides for cocks, this is my first time seeing hens where BOTH were fighting and not one being attacked / bullied. But yes, unless feathers start flying too bad, or waddles getting torn etc, it's best to let them sort it on their own. They got plenty of places to run hide if they need so it's not like someone will be cornered and killed.

You're welcome.

Ill try to get a better picture of her a bit later. Like the rest of them, she does NOT listen at all when I tell her to stand still and smile :)

Her back half is grey like an americauna and the front is golden / brown / speckled like, .. whatever those are. Like I said earlier, Loveable mutt :p

It's a bit hard to use two hands when one is trying to shoo the hen into the lens frame. Maybe I need to get the go pro wear it and just clip one frame out. They have an image stabilizer, maybe they have a cluck filter too so I can stabilize my chickens to take good pictures of them!!

All of them are locked up now, and she is apart from the other quartet, nobody is fighting, but it's clear she is not part of the gang yet. Last night she decided she was going to sleep outside until I found out about it and yelled at her and shoo'd her back into the box. This does remind me tho I need to put another perch up for them or something. I don't need them pooping in the nesting box all night because someone has to squat there.

I gave them a big handfull of radish leaves as a treat. She gobbled them up all day, the others looked at them like ehh, that's not scratch seed, what's wrong with you hooman??

Ok, back later in the day, I see some golden comet feathers around, tells me they got into a bit of a kerfluffle BUT, they all are hanging out with each other, not causing any grief at all, so I guess it's sorting itself out.

I did notice one thing, it's subtle but FUNNY !!

At times they will have to share the egg box, it will easily handle 2 hens... easily.
Normally when they are in there they are facing the center of the box with their butts to the edges / corners and facing each other in the middle.

Well, Big Red, the Drama Queen and FORMER bully is in there, as is the new one, both are getting along just fine, BUT... they are facing away from each other. I can't help but snicker at that. Right now there are not a lot of eggs being laid, although occasionally they may take turns in there, only 1 of them is really laying, and every few days too it seems. That'd be nice if the new one was not taking a vay cay like the rest are but we'll see.

I don't know what to say right now. IM totally blown away.
BIG commotion outside, at first I thought it was the egg song from the new girl. Much deeper voice she has :) but she kept going on and on, I was like OK I HEAR YOU GEEZ !!!

So I go outside to see what the fuss is about and to give her a good job sweetie rubbie on the tail if she did lay an egg.

Turns out, this is not the egg song, this is the warning song, she is 'yelling' at all the other girls, pecking at them, and basically shooing them into the house part, ie the closed in protected part. They stick their head out, she pecks and pushes them back in and is standing at what would be the door I guess you could call it, yelling away, keeping them INside, all upset.

I look up and there are two hawks circling.

Now these hawks been around a while, you hear them crying every morning as they do their daily rounds for lack of a better word. My girls pretty much ignore them, unless they are like roosting in a tree close or on one of the rooftops or something, then they hide under the boat, behind a bush set, whatever.

With that being said, yah, I KNOW it's a bad thing that my girls have gotten complacent to semi nearby hawks, ... however the NEW girl is NOT used to them, and had a fit when she seen them.

What totally blows me away is she acted like a rooster, and gathered the rest of them up, and pushed them inside to safety and stood guard. Im just like, wow.

I KNOW she's a she too, she's already laid eggs, kind of cute pointy eggs. Waiting for her to lay a second one so I know for sure if that's her style or if that was a stress egg from being moved etc etc.

Im liking this lil gal more and more every day that I have her :)

GOOD girl!!!!!

Well she laid a second egg today and it's official. her eggs are a bit pointy. It looks kind of like one of those cone head skits from years back. This is good. I like having something unique to be able to identify whom an egg came from. So lets see
Big red lays big eggs
shadow lays pink eggs
midnight lays dark brown eggs
capn fluffy lays normal but brown eggs
new girl (oh man I havent thought of a name yet) lays pointy eggs.
im thinking maybe calling her Grey Lady since she's greyish.

suggestions for a name would be welcomed :D
