48 hours after being sent out.
2 dont look so good.
one of the little partridge rocks was DEAD...no joke...no heart beat no nothing...
but something told me i couldnt give up on her so i readied an eye dropped or sugar water and poly-vi-sol and put her directly under the heat lamp...
after about 5 mins i saw her little head move, and she peeped i geve her another few mins and she did what she could to life her head a little so i picked her up and gave her the water...
i got a few drops into her, nothing major but she began turning her head away...
back into the brooder box under the light.
4 hours later shes still alive, and even better she was up on her own 2 feet for a little while! she was sleeping under the light when i decided to give my eyes a break. shes tiny even compared to the 2nd partridge rock...
the other one if the little buff brahma. in the box she was weak, and couldnt stand...
pick her up and she wasnt as far gone as the partridge but still...dipped her beak...nothing...so i put her under the ehat lamp and prepped more sugar water and poly-vi-sol..
a few drops and she seemed to perk up, not as lively as the rest of the bunch, but still holding her head up...
but i noticed her shuffling round the box...her feet arnt right...
one one foot it looks like 2 of the toes are squished together, on the other foot, the middle and outer toe are curved into a C, but not UNDER the foot...instead to the side.
she seems to be able to get around, but isnt walking, more hobbling on the backs of her legs...her crop also seems fuller than the others and kind of lopsided. in one aspect its like YAY full crop = eating...on the other, ive delt with crop impaction in parrots...and its no fun.
im not quite sure what to do for her...in comparison to the partridge she was in better shape, but 4 hours later the partridge seems much better compared to the buff brahma...
should i just continue to give her time...or should i try splinting her little toes to straighten them out...
ive seen the bandaid boot method for toes that are curled under...but has anyone ever delt with toes curled to the side...
i know theres nothign i can realy do for the crop other than keep an eye on it.
im probably goign to offer a dish of grit pretty soon for this batch as there in with the week olds...
(who strangly enough already seem like mother hens lol, they rounded the new babies under the lamp, and after getting up from going to sleep i found my week and a half barred rock chick (who may be a roo) sleeping soundly with a little baby chick under each wing. i didnt have my camera ready though
ill try and get new pics of everyone today...its amazing to see the differenc only a week makes.
