Managing my flock:hmm
Today Lil Bit and IDK go to be processed. They are not pleasant and are a waste of my feed etc.

I found a contact, though a friend, just a 10 minute drive away that does the job for $1.75 a bird. So my stump building can wait for a larger batch if at all.

My yard will be much quieter...my front yard pine tree will have no dipstick roo perched in it yelling...my duck flock will get some free range time now.

Still sucky...my first birds to go to the freezer. Kinda bittersweet day it will be I think:rolleyes:

It is for the better. It is the hard part.
Agreed. It was rough for my girls and rough now trying to get everyone free range time since I have to allow one roo out then the flock then the other naughty roo. Today...just the flock! And the ducks will finally get to start free range time too!

I hoped to have good boys but knew I would likely come to this. It's all good. Just my first slaughter since starting with chickens so, just something new to get used to.

My first round was 15 aging hens and a few super mean ones.
The rest of my hens were far better off with those mean ones gone.
The aging hens were all over 7 years old and not laying much if at all.
It was not an easy decision to make but in the end it was the right one.
:hugs
