Well, we were without electricity for about 20 hours...

IggiMom, we got almost 30" here in the eastern panhandle.. coops are half way buried and runs are pretty much the same. Glad to hear your heat is back on. Don't sweat the eggs at all! They will be fine. Im glad the power came on in time to save the freezer food and get the house warm again. I was afraid of that but the snow is light and flaky here... some of the pines are weighed down a bit but everything else is fine.

Keep warm, my dear

Are you all doing ok?

Wow, 30 inches!

Did you electricity stay on?

I hope you are right about the eggs. These are really special eggs, from Taterschickens, Heritage RIR eggs. I really don't want to lose them.

Our power went out 2 weeks ago for 30+hours. Here is how I dealt with this problem. I have a power inverter that plugs into the cig. light of a car. Started the car and moved the bator out and pluged it up. We had a hatch rate of 70%. Had I not done that, I believe no one would have made it thru. My suggestion is to purchase a power inverter 300 watts or higher, and keep it as a fallback for those power outages. Hope this will help you all in the future.

Our power here at the house just came on Monday after 8 straight days with no power, luckily I didn't have eggs cooking in the bator.

We were very well prepared but the part I never anticipated was being cooped up in the house with a 16 yr old DD that didn't have her gagets to occupy her time LOL, so she gabbed incesantly and drove her parents crazy, I loved it don't get me wrong LOL.
