my girl Gloria started laying on New Year's Day. I have several others that are now squatting. Gloria lays in the evening just before dusk One day I got 2 eggs , 1 on the mid morning and the other near dusk. 2 dayed passed with 1 egg each day.. today I go out and open up the coop ,the girls pile out ,I go in and I have an egg balancing on the roost! a sleep layer! sheesh. they NEVER line up the same way on the roost I have no clue to who my 2nd layer is :/

I have the same problem. I've got 2 new girls that are laying 2 different colored eggs, but I've only caught one in the act. I have about 25 girls in that coop and 5-7 of them are squatting and paying lots of attention to the nesting boxes. So I have no clue who's laying the other egg.

Squatting, pelvic spacing, red combs...all are good clues,
but you don't really know until you 'catch them in the act'!
