I have 12, 3 month old pullets, and a 3 month old Welsummer cockrell. This week, he has been trying to mate with the pullets. In all my time of raising chickens, I have never seen this behavior, and I wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Thank you!

All cockerels begin to try to mate when they become mature enough. Usually cockerels mature faster than pullets, so your pullets may not be ready for him. Let me know if I am misunderstanding your question.

Really!?
It's pretty common.
11week old cockerel was mounting his 'sister' here this morning.

Edited to fix mourning to mounting.

If the girls aint ready you might need to put him in time out. He will keep on and on and can cause harm to them.

Thank you for your reply! I think I am going to separate him for a bit until they are more mature. He is very persistent to say the least. I just know I have never seen this, before 4 months of age.

Yes, definitely give him is own condo until the girls start to squat for you. Otherwise you're in for 2 months of screaming pullets. That is young - but definitely not unheard of.
