I recently picked up two Easter egger hens. One supposedly egg laying age, one not quite. I've had them before. In fact, my first egger was broken, too. I haven't had any eggs from the new eggers, until today. One single egg, which in a flock of one mature hen is pretty standard. There is also a ayam semani mix in there, of unknown age. I was told she was pure, but doubt it, as the inside of her mouth is pale.

Why is my egger broken? Well, the egg I got was tan. The same color as the other hen I have in another pen. Smallish and tan. When my first egger lady laid tan eggs, I used to tell her that she was defective. I'd driven over an hour to get a colored egg laying hen, so finding out she laid tan eggs was a tiny let down. In all honesty, I didn't particularly care what color eggs she laid. I don't eat them, and my parents don't really care. Sometimes it's fun giving green eggs to someone. They look at them like they are diseased.

But it would be nice if the chicken I drove a ways for, endured the adoration of both livestock guardian dogs (pinned to my partner's car, unable to move except my hands), and watched the people try to catch for over an hour would be nice enough to give me green eggs. I honestly don't ask much. Be pleasant to look at, let me dress you up and take pictures (which I then post on the Internet without their consent), and lay pretty eggs. So far, she's one of the three. She could be a little shinier, but it's also rained nearly every day here and she's fond of the mud.

Ridiculous broken chicken.

Easter Eggers will occasionally throw other colored eggs, like pink, cream, brown, & white.
It's usually a surprise when they start laying.
Not all lay Blue/green eggs.

I wonder if the more experienced keepers can tell by leg color and or feathers. I’m waiting on 2 that haven’t started laying yet. One of mine has the feather pattern and color of a green layer I lost last year so my fingers are crossed, but I have no idea….
