The Bermuda Triangle
I've been wanting to get some ducklings in the next year or so, and I've found that I quite like the Welsh Harlequins. But you see, I don't have a very large yard so I was wondering if they take up a lot of space or are noisy. The side of our yard that I want to build the duck house in is farthest from the neighbors house and they are rarely out there so I'm not too concerned but it's something to be aware of. Another thing, I'm new to keeping poultry so are they okay for beginners? I've been doing research for quite some time now and I would like to foster ducklings. Any tips or advice is appreciated!

They have the same space requirements as most other duck breeds, at least 15sqft during the day, and at night at least 5sqft per duck when they are locked in the coop. Welsh Harlequins are known as a quieter breed than most, but still expect some loud quack's during the day/night, so if noise is that much of concern with your neighbors, it'd probably best not to get them. I think they'd be a perfect breed for beginners.

Ok, thanks! I guess with having ducks noise is to be expected. I'm planning on mostly free roaming in the day and I have some duck house plans that should be large enough.

Ducks quack, but I think they are slightly less noisy than my chickens, no daily โ€œegg songโ€. And WH are my dream breed. I think if I had been able to pick my breed, I would have gone WH. I hope you enjoy and post pics
