Welsh Harlequin

Hi Webfoot,
You have some beautiful birds! Since you raise Welsh Harlequins, I am hoping you can help me. I bought a duck at a feed store, all the sign said was "large ducklings". I was told my duck looks like a welsh harlequin and I agree but I am not sure how to tell the sex of my duck. He is an Easter baby and not old enough to lay yet if he is a she

. I was told that light colored bills mean a boy and dark bills are on girls, is that right? I was hoping for a girl so I could have duck eggs, but now we are so attached to that silly bird he will have to just stay a pet.

I just read one post that asked how it could be a welsh if it has blue wing bars. My birds wings look anywhere from navy blue to purple to black depending on the light. Could that mean a different breed? If so any ideas on what he is?

Depending on the light and the angle my ducks' wing bars look purple, royal blue or aqua. One of mine doesnt even have any but has plain wings. There is some slight variation.

He looks like a WH drake to me. Silver phase welshs have the blue bands, and the golds have bronze. He is beautiful!
