Welsummer baby showed good signs of pullet, but now looks like a roo

Hello all, first time poster, also first time chicken raiser.

We have 4 8 week old chicks now, all different breeds. We have a Welsummer that showed the classic V and face bar as being a pullet but now she looks like a roo, big time. I guess I'm just looking for confirmation so I can start the process of dealing with him as I can't keep a roo, which is too bad because I'd love a Welsummer rooster. They are simply gorgeous.

He is very calm, always seems to do his own thing (not mean or aggressive) but doesn't allow the other hens to 'challenge' him, he will stand up for himself and wins any competitions. He is only 8 weeks old or so.. I've had him 8 weeks anyway. He makes some noises but doesn't crow or even try to crow .. just squawks, like a couple of the other hens do.

100% a roo though, right?

Well, I'd say at only 8 weeks that is a roo. But the only way to be 100% sure it to wait for the crow or the egg. I posted a pic of my RIR a while back and a lot of people told me it was definitly a roo, but she is laying eggs now.

I would say 100% roo based on colouring not only the hectic head gear he’s got going on there! Welsummer hens have virtually no black on them, not like the roo’s do anyway! Shame you can’t keep him and shame the chick patterning sexing didn’t work for you! The hens are also so pretty (though mine are definitely not the friendliest!

OK thanks all. I guess we'll hang on to him for a few more weeks just to make certain or until he starts crowing. Yeah.. definitely looking like a Shawn to me too.
