Welsummer Cockerel, 3 Wks Old...Oh, yeah, BOY!

Cyn did you get all the girl eggs? I have 10 Welsummers that are 3 weeks old and I am sure 8 are boys. A few have extra large combs like your guy.

very gorgeous!

Lori, I do love the look of a Wellie rooster, but I have to make tough decisions because I am not the only person involved in the workload here. It was go forward with my Blue Orps or add Welsummers. Suede sure could use more ladies! His two are so barebacked, they look pitiful.
ticks, I wish you lived closer. I just don't ship birds. It's why my feedbill is high for too long after hatching chicks, LOL-all those extra rooster babies.
Sharon, I didnt say the rest were definitely not cockerels, just that there were about 4 fairly obvious roos. I do think I did better on my pullet to roo ratio with the Welsummers than my usual luck, though.

So far on the 2 welsummer chicks I banded that I thought might be roos well 1 is for sure a roo. He has a large comb and it's already a red color. The other one as a little bigger comb but no red in it. The other 5 seem to be girls

They have smaller combs and a pale in color. I have been keeping a close watch on them. If so then this hatch was was better then my last one. I had more roos then pullets! I bought these from a guy out of Michigan and I like how he picked mostly girl eggs for me and at least 1 roo!! lol I'll have to email him and tell him Thanks!

It's not a great picture but the leg's are not really green, although they are not very yellow.I got her from the feed store which came thru Ideal and she was an odd ball chick in the BSL brooder. She really looked like Partridge Rock chick and I got her because of that.I have PR's and I took a chance on her being one but as long as she's a pullet that's ok with me.
