3 weeks ago, I had the great pleasure of meeting BYC's beloved Opa, aka Sam.

It was a day that I will be thankful for and remember forever.

On that day, he generously brought me 2 dozen of his Welsummer hatching eggs...absolutely beautifully speckled terra cotta colored eggs.

Of the 24 eggs that I candled on day 18, which was Monday, 17 of them were growing strong.

So those 18 were put into the hatcher. As of 3pm this afternoon, day 20, 4 of them have pipped!!!!

I can't even express how excited I am for this hatch.

To get a whole bunch of chipmunk striped fuzzy butts from this hatch will be a personal triumph for me, and it looks like I'm off to a good start.

As everyone knows, incubating and hatching is hard work...but the sight and sound of new baby chicks makes it all worth while...and feeds the addiction!

Oh, congratulations! I can't wait to see your pictures!

I just received my Welsummer eggs today, so I too would love to see what they look like just after hatching!

Laura hatched one last week. I will also be up quite awhile checking back in on this thread.
