Went into Lockdown today, Anyone else??? *UPDT 12/14-Pics on pg.5

BigDaddy'sGurl :

I had one more hatch last night: can you help me figure something out...the egg was unmarked...the options of breed are: purebred serama, purebred cochin, or cochin/silkie cross. This little one is gold/blue with feathered legs and golden skin. 4 toes. My cochin roo is red, the cochin hens are gold laced on black, and my silkie is dark partridge. So...if it were to be silkie crossed, what are the odds that it would take so strongly after the cochin side? I'm thinking it is purebred cochin.

How bout a picture!!

I been on lockdown for the last few days. Staggered hatches. So I had two silkies, now I'm waiting for cochins and some more silkies (no pips yet at last check), then Friday I think I have some more hatching; polish, sussex, cochins, blue silkies. Chickens, chickens, and more chickens, YES I'm rich with chickens.

Dont feel bad- I have some due the 23rd-24,25,26,27,and the 30th all in the same bator!! I have 64 eggs on the way off of BYC and ebay- I have another bator for hatching- I have 3 eggs that are rolling around as I type!!! they are due tomorrow. Come on chickies!!!!! I want to post some pics!

I have 2 silver sussex and 2 mottled orps that went into lockdown Monday. I put them in at 6:00 am. When I got home at 3, the temp in the incubator read 96 degrees. Dont know for how long they were like that. I have 2 styrofoam baters I have been using for 2 years. 1 is just for incubating and has a fan and a turner and I just add eggs as I want to hatch. 1 is for lockdown the last 3 days. They have been running nonstop since October. Now, we only heat our house with wood and since the temps have been so low and the wind just crazy, my house is chilly. Lets just say I walk around with my carhart overalls on till I go to bed. All I can do is just pray that they make it. I managed to get the temp back up to 99 about 5 o clock yesterday but I wont get my hopes up. I was gonna put them back into the other incubator with the turner and let them hatch in that one cause it kept the temp just right but I was afraid that they would get stuck under the turner or something. Has anyone had any luck with low temp eggs hatching? Sorry I just had to vent, I guess Im going to tractor supply to get another one I fear that the lockdown incubator has pooped out on me. And I got 8 more coming out. On a happy note, I hatched my first all Lav chick Sat. I got a bunch of chicks in the house, some out in the shop, its taking a toll trying to keep everyone at the right temp. I can only dream about Spring!

Same thing happened to me. Lockdown was early a.m. on the 13th. I got home from work that same afternoon around 5:00 and ran into my bathroom to check on the eggs...was at 96 and don't know how long it was like that. Like you, I keep my house extemely cool, except for the bathroom where the incubator is. It is always between 65 & 72 in there, so I have no clue why the incubator thermometer was at 96. The temp in the bathroom outside the incubator was 65. Also, not able to get my humidity right in the incubator. It will not budge past 55, though I keep the trays full of water and I have a saturated cosmetic sponge in the incubator. I need help with that - if anybody knows how I can get that humidity up, please let me know, as I think I'm going to lose these chicks! Thanks!

Roro, don't worry too much about it. On my last hatch the bator was all over the place. I don't know how long it stayed at 90, but I had one of the best hatch percentages. Believe it or not.
