Im in a short nub of the Sonoran Desert near the Mexican Border at about 3000 feet. I see you are using shade cloth on the sides Are you going to use it on the roof of the run as well. We only get up to about 110 max in the summer for a few days. I know you get hotter in the summer. I use the Silver coated tarps for heat deflection, they block 100 percent of the sun.

We have the shade cloth on the top in the back now but will put it on the rest of the top soon. We want the girls to be able to see out and not feel closed in while in the run. We probably won't put anymore down the sides though.

We are at an elevation of 3100 feet here and get 100+ temps are like yours - don't last too long. We'll keep an eye on them in the severe heat and make adjustments if we have to. We're new at this so I really love this forum. I'm learning sooo much!

I didnt shade my previous runs but am thinking of doing it this time around. I am building a larger coop so on those very hot days they can choose to be inside. My coop itself is three sided two walls for wind and sun and a silver tarp roof. Then for winter I stretch a tarp over the open sides to keep the wind out.

That's what I figured we would do on the run - throw a tarp in a pinch or add more shade cloth. Now I gotta get out and finish with some painting and trim so hopefully the girls we spend their first night in the new coop!
