We're changed from Hay to dried cut grass ..... and the chickens are mad!

well, i dont use chemicals but my grass was so thick and i was on a riding mower so i would go in circles until i got a big pile, throw it on the tarp and drag it to the coop. they all got sick and it was from the wild birds carrying mg. i do belive thats what happened. no testing though. 5 months ago and i am still battling it. its about won though.

I think it's unwise to claim grass clippings gave your birds MG unless you know for sure.

A big pile of 'wet', meaning fresh and very moist, grass clippings could harbor and grow any number of organisms...molds being the first to come to mind.

Crop impaction can also be another risk of too many cut lawn clippings given to chickens.

im not claiming , i said i think, pretty sure. isnt that what the wild birds carry? if i had a closed flock at the time and they got crd not too long after that then how? the crd went to corzya and just now the last of them are healing. it wasnt a closed flock for a while but at that point it didnt matter. my hens were hatching and i had eggs in the bator is why it has taking so long. i started with tylan inj. and am finishing with oxytetracline .

My grass clippings are super dry.............dead dry and because we don't mow on a low setting (unless there is a real reason too) it makes lawns look like crap...........the clippings are rather long.
Also I don't notice them eating it at all. They free range a few hours a day if not all day (because we have to supervise). I will keep it in mind though.

So on the topic of lawns, I'm thinking of growing alghalfa for the chickens. Going to the nursery today to see how feasable this is and hopefully protect my garden while still providing my girls and roo greens. A front lawn of it replacing my fresco.....we're not on a street anyways but back in the woods.
