Ok, we gave away our pet quality birds and have cut the flock down to a handful of egg layers, and three breeding pens. It's our first try at breeding and hatching - we do have a broody right now, so all systems are go
My questions are, I have a roo over three hens in both of the bantum groups (WC Black, and White). I should get all WC Blacks from that pen, and all white from the other, right?
The one exception is, I have a splash hen with the White roo. What might I get there? I'm thinking 50% white, 25% splash and 25% khaki?
In large fowl I have one WC Blue hen and a WC Black roo. I'm hoping to improve her blue color in the offspring. And if my genetics are right, I'm looking at 50% black, 25% blue & 25% splash, right?
Since we have a broody right now, how many days can I collect the eggs and put them under her before I have to stop and let them go on about hatching? I plan to mark the eggs, so I can remove the egg layers' eggs each day -- or, do I need to collect them and take them to the house, then put them all under her at one time?
Then when the time gets closer, I have a large dog crate to relocate her to.
Anything I'm missing or need to know? We are really excited about the prospect of babies from our own birds!
