Hi! Our family is just getting started and have taken lots of inspiration from your Chicken Coop page! We are starting to build today! Just wondering though, would anyone have an help on locating chicks? We are looking to build a coop for 6 egg layers, but need to find 6 egg layers!

I would post in your state's thread for best luck in finding someone local who has chicks: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you at this time of year many people have stopped hatching. However, you can also try mypetchicken.com, I ordered chicks from them last year and they all arrived healthy and happy thru the mail good luck to you.

Glad you joined us! I would recommend looking at the Buy, Sell, and Trade section of the forum. Or, you could try ordering chicks from a hatchery. Some good ones are McMurray Hatchery and MyPetChicken. I've had experience with McMurray, and know people who have got chicks from MyPetChicken. All the chicks from each hatchery arrived healthy, and most of them were accurately sexed and breed identified. The only disadvantage of McMurray Hatchery is that the minimum order is 25, so if you only want a few chicks, that doesn't work. One way to get around that, though, its to split the order with other interested chicken owners.
