Good Day,
My family moved from the city to a country estate last spring with our two lovely GSDs. Now, we've finally settled in enough to begin the farming adventure.
Just last week we acquired 10 lovely chicks and we're all getting to know one another.

(Side note: if you had to count the chickens on the line above, then you may be a bit OCD like me. Congratulations!)
Our chicks, each about a month old, are mostly Silkies with one Phoenix in the flock, though some may be Silkie/Phoenix mixed breeds. Would love to get their DNA tested but I'm not sure they'd cooperate enough to spit in the tube to give a saliva sample.
One reason I joined your community is to learn more about raising chickens, and in the short-term that means building them a larger coop so they can move out of their crowded dog crate. Yikes, they grow so fast!
I'm retired Navy and my wife & I are both degreed engineers, so this farming stuff is interesting to us.
BTW, I just love the book, Backyard Chickens - Guide to Coops and Tractors, which led me to this website, and here we are!
Be well,
Joel Just Joel
