Were these laid by the same hen?

I was camping all weekend and we had no service so couldn't get on here BUT at least 2 more hens started laying while I was gone!!

I got a lot more brown eggs, similar shades to the pictures I've already posted in this thread. I also got 3 white eggs (1 cracked), thanks to my blue andalusian and 1 medium chocolate brown egg thanks to one of my marans - either Daisy (splash) or Elsa (white). I'll post pictures.

I did check their pelvic bones again. I can fit three fingers in between Daisy's and havent been able to catch Elsa yet but I'm still trying! Daisy could be laying some of the light brown ones because I can't imagine that just Tot (salmon faverolle) has been laying all of these!

I also have a question about one of my marans' combs.

Her comb is very plump and very red but towards the top of it there is a white spot that doesn't come off. It has the appearance of mold, but it's not.
Here's a pic:

It's been there for about a week now. What is it?

Just looked it up but I still don't completely understand what it is. Do I need to cull any? If so, will I have to cull everybody or just Elsa?

I'm not sure, I don't think culling is necessary (I'll check), I have never had fowl pox. Like most things with chickens, it's probably nothing but if it is something, it's best to catch it early. I tend to think that aslong as the chicken seem alert and healthy than there probably isn't cause for worry. It definitely doesn't look like wet fowl pox.

I just looked at the synptoms or dry fowl pox and it doesn't look that that either so never mind!

Also, WOW you have more eggs than I do at the moment. :)

I'm not sure. If your Easter eggers aren't first generation it could also be them. Judging from the combs, I don't think it was the White Marans. The comb should be plump and shiny red. Other than that it's hard to tell, have any of your hens been checking out the nesting box? That's a good sign that they are close to lay.

Which of them squat? That is a very good indicator that they are laying or are close to laying. Touch their back they should hunker down into a squat position like the one below. This shows that they are sexually mature as the whole purpose of a squat is to provide a stable platform for the rooster during mating.
(Not my photo)

The other way to tell if they are laying or close to laying is by looking at the pelvic/pubic bones. The photo below should show you where to look. You will find to bony points on either side of the vent. If you can't get two fingers comfortably between them then they won't be the ones laying/close to laying. The bone spread out in order to pass egg through them. If you can get two fingers or more inbetween them that means the hens' pelvis' are ready to lay an egg. 3+ fingers means they are very close to laying/laying and lay a large sized egg.

Hope that helps

XxMingirlxX - THAT's what my chickens have been doing?! I saw them squat whenever I came near them but I thought it was because they thought I was going to step on them or eat them not mate with them! I guess it's good news that they're ready to lay but at the same time now I'm a bit traumatized myself!

Thank you!

I now have 14 eggs total. Dixie (BA) has laid daily for 6 days now. Tot laid her first egg, took a few days break and then laid daily for awhile. She didn't lay yesterday, but laid today. Daisy (splash marans) laid one dark egg 3 days ago. Nothing since. Pepper (EE) just started yesterday and has laid 2 blue eggs since then.
