West Virginia anyone?

Hey fellow maintaineer chicken person..lol. I lived in Marion co for years and got married and now live in mon co. I have 49 hens and one rooster. I sell my eggs...dont get very many right now. Hubby keeps telling me he will put eletric in coop......we will see. Lol

Oh I have 1 silver laced Wyandotte and I just love her! If you do ever decide to breed them, let me know. I'm in a similar situation. I have LOTS of pure breds, but I let the free range together for the most part. I do keep my bantam Cochins alone. I have to figure something out there as well tho, because I have a Frizzled Bantam Cochin roo and 1 Frizzled and one Smooth Bantam Cochin hens. I want to hatch the eggs from the smooth Cochin, but not the Frizzle since my roo is a Frizzle too. They say that leads to feather issues in the offspring. So I either need to learn to distinguish between their eggs or put them in a different pen. Let me know what you decide down the road.

But if you get a frazzle rooster from the hatch out of the frizzle hen eggs anything he breeds will be frizzle no matter what.

That's what Ihave heard, but I'm scared to end up with a sickly chick. I think I am just going to go with 50/50. I don't do much selling of chicks anyway, they usually end of just staying here forever. lol. I do plan to sell some if I can get the frizzles hatching out well. They are not yet laying. I have only had them about a month. The previous owner THOUGHT they had started laying, but wasn't sure that the eggs were from them. THey were just hatched this Spring, so they may hold out till next Spring. I do know that the rooster has um....figured out his job...lol.

Hi!!! My hubby has been telling me the same thing!! LOL I already bought the chicken safe covered dome lights and already have electric in them but hav been waiting WEEKS for him to mount them! We have 3 chicken houses, all of which need lights. If he doesn't get it done this week I will be taking matters into my own hands! LOL Mine aren't laying much now either. You will have to let me know when they get laying if you want to sell any eggs. Did you say any of yours were grouped by breed or are they all mixed? Sometimes I'm ok with mixes. I have a few myself but I'm looking for a few specific breed to add to my flock soon. :) I used to live in Morgantown (Westover) for a few years, but back in Marion County now. Actually in the Fairview area out in the country. Much more our speed. :)

Well I just thought you meant hatching eggs. lol I incubate as well as hatch withone of my broody hens from time to time. I have 20 in the bator right now with 2 weeks left.  The waiting is the hard part!!

I would be interested in buying some frizzle hatching eggs as soon as yours start laying. Or even hatched chicks. I have been wanting some frizzle but it hasn't worked out for me yet.
