Have you determined the cause of the rot? Did someone let the tub overflow, or is there continual moisture under the house? If there is, then I would use pressure treated plywood as the subfloor.

The trick is to getting the finished floor and the floor in the adjoining room or hallway, to match up, elevationwise.

the moisture came from the edges of the walls not being sealed well and the termites are being taken care of tomorrow

Just asked another expert and he said not to put 3 inches of wood down for the floor, I should attach new joist to the existing ones and make them higher does this sound good????
there is no real moisture problem we just have to seal everything well

As long as the existing joists are sound. Even if there is a little bit of old rot, if it's not active. Or if the rot has not destroyed mst of the joist. Just scab onto the side of the existing joist. Be sure all of the new joists are put with the crown up. Also, it is my policy never to trust someone else's work without checking it out. Shoot an elevation on the new joists, so that you know the new floor will be level. The old floor may not be level.

That is what the last guy said. 1 guy just called me with a price of 1,800.00 and done in 2 days with the materials costing 700.00 but that is a finished bathroom with new tub and shower. I know that is not too bad, but I cant do that. He siad he would do the floor and put the old tub back for 300.00 that is not bad either, and less work for me LOL but we will figure it out. And thank you for your info and help....the people here on BYC are the best.
