Wet butt! What can be wrong?

I have an 8 week old Buff Orp x Araucauna pullet that I bought with three others at a poultry swap a week and a half ago. The day after I brought them home, all of their butts/vents appeared to be wet. Today, I have only one that still has a wet butt- the others have all cleared up. I have looked for diarrhea and worms, but the poop appears normal. She is eating and does not act sick, but is a little smaller than the others. Any suggestions on what might be the problem? It appears to be something they all had, but most have recovered from. I'd like to identify this and control it long before I need to put these in with the rest of my girls. Thanks for your help!

It sounds like these new peeps are still in the 30 day quarantine phase before you put them with the rest of your flock. As long as they don't seem to be sick, things continue to "clear up" and they continue to thrive and act normally, they should be fine. But I'd definitely keep them away from your other clucks until after 30 days.

I would certainly check for worms. See if the vet will do a worm float, if you don't see any.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, they are still in quarantine. Plus, my big girls are tough customers and I wanted them to be a little older before I put them in the shark tank. But after giving this a lot of thought, I think it likeliest that they have worms. I'm going to try deworming and see if that does the trick.

I'm having a similar problem with one Buff Orpington that I bought at a poultry swap. I've treated for coccidiosis and have cleaned her butt and completely isolated her from her siblings. I called a professional poultry guy this evening and he told me to treat for mites (Sevin dust). I am going to give it a try. My hen is gushing yellow ooze from the egg vent. Hope you have luck with your girl.
