Wet Coop?

So, as most people, for my coop, I'm going with a hardware cloth covered run. My roof DOES slope, but I'm worried that water will get into the non-sloping side, and get my run floor (pine shavings) wet. Are wet shavings ok? What do you guys do?

No wet shavings! That will allow terrible things to grow- mold and lots of flies. can you divert the water away maybe with a ditch? or a mound with a small ditch cut at the bottom to allow water to drain away?

I would seriously consider opting for sand for the run. Shavings are great for the housing, but when wet are really yucky - and mold can begin to grow underneath if left in place. Coarse sand drains well and is easy to clean with a narrow tined rake or a kitty litter scoop...

Sand in the run. Preferred by all ten of my chickens which are currently out in the pouring rain pretending to be ducks.

Thanks for all of the responses. If I had sand in my run, would it get hot in the day? I live in Texas, so I want my chickens to be as cool as possible during the summer...Also, where do you guys get your sand?
Is there anyone out there who uses shavings and can give me advice on how to keep them dry?

I get my sand from a landscaping company, because I buy by the ton (under $20). Lowes/Home Depot carry it by the bag, but that's a lot pricier. Gravel companies will have it as well.
The sand might get hot if the sun is blasting down on it all day, but if the sun is blasting down on your birds all day, then I'd presume you've given them some kind of shade?? So the sand should be fine. Even if you roof your run, blowing rain will get the bedding wet, so shavings should be reserved for the indoors...

I buy the coarse construction sand...better drainage.
