Wet feed

Rain here has been non-stop, so the feed is getting wet. Do I need to change the feed every time it gets wet or should I just let them eat the soggy feed. Thanks.

I have had the same issue with the non stop rain. My feeder is getting wet even with a covered run, because the rain is coming in sideways, even under the cover of trees! I have a hanging feeder and I got an aluminum pie pan, cut a hole in the middle and put it over the top of the feeder, through the chain that it hangs by. It stopped a lot of the water getting in.

Regarding moistened feed, many of us intentionally do this and let it ferment with beneficial bacteria. But I would only put out what can be eaten in one day.

Great idea!!

here is a little one I made...I put dry feed in it and it has stayed dry thru some very rainy windy days....

We have had a lot of rain too. I only put out what they eat in a day.
Watch that the feed does not get moldy and clean up any spills in this kind of weather.

Yep, I'm one that intentionally wets feed, I offer both dry and a wet mash prepared daily.
I don't leave feed out overnight either.

I have two coops, one big enough feed and water inside, other small so both outside no cover. I ferment so wet feed no prob, the outside feeder is just a big container I drilled small holes in the bottom so it drains but loses no feed, just so it doesn't get water logged/sloppy.

I have a big enough Coop so feed and water in my Coop..

My coop is big enough for food/water inside as well, but I've found that my feed in large hanging feeders molds very quickly and I have to throw it out in the warmer months. I am home most days, so I do have the benefit of filling up feed containers during the day if needed.
Also with my flock, having multiple feed stations lessens food aggression. Everyone gets to eat and there's no bullying.
