My chickens love wet feed! a couple of days ago some feed accidently spilled and got a little wet and the chickens went crazy over it. well it happened again so i mixed some water and feed together and put it in a container for them and they were so happy. they ate all of it. they'll eat that before they go to the dry. i was just wondering if they just think its a treat and don't realize its feed and they just like it or it there is another reason. Have any of you had chickens eat this?

I left the top off of a container that I keep mine in, and it rained..... mine also went into a feeding frezy over the wet food, unfortunately, there was more food than they could eat that was wet, and I worried about mold and stuff, so I had to throw some out........ I think as a treat I may offer up some wet food on occasion too though.

For the first month I had my chicks that was what i fed them, it is called mash. Dry food water added to make a moist food is what is called a mash. The chicks do not waste feed that way and it is easier for them to eat it. In the summer it is good if done with cool water but make sure they eat it all in an hour. Winter it can stand around longer as long as it does not feeze. It is a great way to use podwered feed left in the bottom of a bag or dish. Waste no want not.

The same thing happened to me. Some feed got wet so I gave it to my birds wet. They got so excited I had to get more bowls out and devide it up so everyone would get some.

Just don't let the feed get fermented. My neighbor had some drunk chickens after they ate wet feed that had been wet too long. Poor birds, couldn't even walk a straight line without falling over, flapping their wings, and cackling like a drunk.

It would not cause impacted crop because chickens eat and drink before and after with dry. This just makes it moist. Sour crop is from bad feed so not letting it sit for a long time takes care of that one. People have been feeding mash or wet feed for centuries with no problems.

As long as it has not sat for days and gotten moldy mine love wet after a rainstorm and the feeders have been out in the grow out pens.

Oh thank you so much. i thought well if they like it... so i think im going to feed it to them sometimes.

Of course, Mrs. Tuff is right.
We had an unexpected leak in the coop roof. Dripped right into the feeder, of course. I just scooped up the wet stuff (two handfuls maybe) and tossed it out the door. They scarfed it up.
Note: I made a top for the feeder, since DH still hasn't gone up to fix the leak. It hasn't rained on the feeder once since I made the top.

We weren't talking about chickens being smart right? Cuz yesterday I fed two hens handfuls of layer pellets that they ate like there was no tomorrow. I was standing right next to their full feeder when I fed it to them.
