Wet nesting box?

If it stinks after a few days, it's egg residue. BTDT.

No chance of rain intrusion?

x2. Really sounds like rain or ground water somehow seeping in. Would be very unusual for a chicken to be somehow soiling the box or damaging eggs that are seeping into bedding, without any other evidence of a broken egg or soiled bedding.

So which box specifically is getting wet?

it alternates between 2 or 3 boxes. When I go to change out the bedding in them one of the 6 are always damp. The box that usually is damp always has 0-1 egg no more.

Maybe block off that nest box, since they don’t use it often it shouldn’t really matter. If it is still getting wet when no chickens have access to it, then u know there is a moisture problem somewhere.
If it stops getting wet, then u know it is related to your chickens.

Wonder if somehow condensation is dripping in? Is the roof metal (kinda hard to see)?
Yeah the roof is metal with tar sealant. It over hangs every side of the coop to allow ventilation without allowing water inside the coop

Oh that's a good idea - you could possibly eliminate chickens as a cause doing this.

but.....

Guess you could just keep blocking off any wet nest...see if it continues.
I'm betting weak shell getting broken. hard to find out who is doing it.

How wet is it?
Does it soak the towels you have in there?
When you pull out the damp towel does it dry stiff or not?
That could define water or egg contents.....as could color are wet towels yellowish?

Yeah the roof is metal with tar sealant.
Where is the tar...on top of roof or underneath?
