Wet stinky run....

That is what I think I was leaning towards for now... some pine shavings and sand..

I've been using an Echo mulch from a landscape place, it's untreated and cheap. You could use cypress mulch, that should be untreated. Just a word of advice, sand will not decompose with chicken poop. As the poop goes down through the shavings it will just sit there. It will probably be a nice smelly mess and attract flies, unless you scope the poop. People with sand only runs, scoop the poop. My .02 about sand.

Okay, thanks! Then no sand...just pine shavings... and I’ll look into the Echo mulch too! Thank you:)

That's why my sand is underneath the fill dirt. Yes, the first year, with most type soils, you have to turn the dirt fairly regular. After the first year, the dirt should be working for you, and it will break down the pooh nicely.

Okay yall! So I used pine pellets and some pine shavings that I had and some PDZ...
It is SO much better and no stink at all!!
And the sun is shining:ya
I think it was the poopy, water, mud puddles that were stinking somethin awful...
Thank each of you that replied with helpful tips... I so greatly appreciate every one!!!:hugs

My run is so wet and muddy from rain and snow thaw right now that I don’t even set foot in it. I just stretch my body from the door to pour my scoop of crumbles into the feed trough
Come spring I need to do a serious fix.
