hi there! I have a covered run/coop with sand, we had torrential sideways rain and the coop is pretty wet even with the sand. I scooped the droppings & raked the sand to help dry it but lawd the flies have come out of nowhere and are swarming by the 100’s in there. Our property has a lot of standing water from the storms. I see so many people mention sand doesn’t get wet (huh?) what do they mean. We have builder sand in there. We’re hanging a jug trap in there and took their food out while they’re out foraging. The flies were crazy for the chick food. Any other management ideas til we dry out

I'd switch out that sand and use shavings. You're seeing what happens when sand gets wet. When it's hot, it heats up the coop/run and can burn their feet if it's in the sun. For flies, I like those fly traps you can buy at big box stores. The attractant is non-poisonous and they work well.

Your best bet would be to buy some fly predators. You can find them on line. Fly predators combined with traps should keep the flies under control.
