I posted a question last week on day 18 of incubating my eggs-I was so nervous and didn't think my first hatch would be very successful. Well, I ended up with 24 out of 30 eggs hatching! It is an awesome thing to see! It just didn't get old seeing one after the other come out of their shells over almost 36 hours.

I got the eggs from my sister and brother-in-law. We started with 42 in the automatic turner in the 1588 Hovabator. Twelve of those were either infertile or didn't grow. I'll try to post some pictures.

Thanks to everyone on this list who is willing to share their experiences and advice!

Here are pics:
This was the first one to hatch, and I love how it slept on top of the eggs like this

I just love it when they sprawl out like this

Here's the whole flock - they're moving to larger quarters today!

My brother-in-law hasn't seen them yet, but from my description he said they're likely Barred Rocks and Brown Leghorns. Our local farm store got chicks in yesterday the same age as mine so I added 2 Rhode Island Red females and 3 bantams.

This one is "Red" aka Little Red Hen! My two teenaged sons had never heard the story of the Little Red Hen, so I found it online for them. My great-grandma used to read that story to me - wish I had that Little Golden Book!
