Roosters have bigger combs and wattles that are much redder than hens! They are usually bigger than hens and have a saddle tail feathers [ that is when the tail feathers curve down at the end of the tail]. Also, usually, females don't have spurs but males usually always do except for when they are very young.
Roosters don't lay eggs, they are boys, and the hens are girls. Hens DO lay eggs. You need a rooster to fertilize the eggs so you can have baby chicks. Roosters protect the flock.
