It seems to me that you need to look at your incubation situation i.e. type of incubator, independent, calibrated instruments (by you), health and genetics of the hatching eggs, sanitation practices with said incubator and your brooder set up, feed and subsequent care of chicks. Losses of eggs at such a high rate is a bummer for sure but probably something that could be fixed if you want to try again. Unfortunately, the cockerel/pullet ratio is usually, USUALLY, pretty close to 50/50. That being said, I hatched out 9 Black Copper Marans eggs last year and ended up with 1 pullet and 8 cocks!!! So it goes!I’m glad to hear you had a good hatch! It gives me hope. I would love to try again with just some CLs and Ameraucanas, but considering how much money went down the drain with the last batch I don’t know if I can justify itMy daughter and I did it as an experiment and for her 4H, but I think I ended up having as much fun (and heartbreak) as her.
