Hey everyone, I have a 2 yr old Easter Egger named, Lacy. Lately I’ve noticed some missing feathers right under her beak/chin area. today she had trouble eating a snack, and I noticed that her eye had clear bubbles in it. The exposed skin seems irritated and red as you can see in the photos below. I don’t what it is, so I just did the first thing I always do when something external comes up, and put sovereign silver on/in it.
Also she is one of the lowest on the pecking order, and that’s why I haven’t thought much of the missing chin feathers. Let me know what you think it could be.

P.S
She is still very active
First one to see me at the gate
In the nesting box today
Poops are very good 😌

Also the bubbles you can’t really see in these photos because they disappeared when I came out agian with treatment. (Sovereign Silver) I also added “Recovery 911” to their water.

Bubbles or foam in an eye, and the sunken appearance can be symptoms of mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG.) An antibiotic such as Tylan 50 injectable given orally, Tylosin powder in the water, or oxytetracycline can be used to treat symptoms. Tylosin may be found here:
https://jedds.com/products/tylosin-powder

Here is some info about MG:

Okay, I don’t really know anything about those two. Would she have other symptoms? Because she really seems to be normal except for this.

MG is a chronic respiratory disease. There may be other symptoms, or no others. If the Tylosin helps, then it probably is that. Testing while she is having symptoms can rule it out or identify it. Have you added any new birds from other people recently? The Tylosin is easy to use, 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days.

No new buddies from others. Just 4 chicks I got last fall, but they are all grown up now and about laying age.

I’m going to try the sovereign silver for 2 days while watching her thoroughly. If it’s still bad however, how long do I give her the antibiotic for? Also Can the whole flock have it with her, because I’d hate to separate her? She’s very spirited and active.

Testing is hard because there aren’t many chicken vets where I live and if there is, there are usually no free spots available or it’s very expensive.

You would give Tylan/Tylosin for 5 days as posted earlier in the thread.

Don't give antibiotics prophylactically, treat only sick birds, so if she's the only one showing symptoms, then treat only her.
Tylosin powder goes in the water, so you would need to separate her out. If you can find injectable Tylan50, then you can use that and just treat her while leaving her with the flock. The Tylan50 is administered orally 3 times a day, so you'd just need to pull her out to give her the meds.

Hey thank you so much, for this information. I plan on getting the tylan50 at a local Tractor Supply later today. What is the dosing? Like how much of the antibiotic do I give her 3 times a day for 5 days? Thanks for helping, I’m trying my best to help her, I just don’t want her to be in pain.

Tylan50 dose is 0.25ml per pound of weight given orally 3 times a day for 5 days in a row.

Get the smallest syringes they have along with a pack of needles, you'll need to draw the contents through the rubber stopper with the needle into the syringe, then take the needle off so you have a needless syringe.
This article shows you how to administer oral medication.

Okay thank you for explaining the per pound dosing, and the the whole needle thing, because I was confused when I got it on why there was a needle top instead of a regular cap.

Would this work for I needle syringe? It has the needle on it and then turns into a syringe once you pop the needle off. At least that’s what it look like. I can also get an even smaller one that is 1ml instead of 3ml.
