What’s up with this babies eye, hatched today

The right eye is nearsighted to look for food and the left is farsighted to watch for predators, iirc.
Looks like it’s her right eye. It’s crusted this morning and it’s her right eye. I banded her so it’s easy to pick her out. Poor baby

Isn’t that her left eye? Like if you were the chick, looking out at the world, that would be your left eye.

General care for eyes that you are concerned about is to clean/rinse them with saline, then apply a dot of Terramcyin eye ointment in the eye.

I would follow Wyorp’s advice to see if you can improve the crustiness and prevent infection.

I think if it were me I would put a baby wipe in warm water, then hold the wipe against the eye to soften the crust. Then I would use a q-tip dampened in warm water to try to wipe the crust away from the eye. Go from the edges out, not across, so as to not wipe the gunk into the eye. Then flush with warm saline solution and apply the terramycin.
